One-on-one support and guidance is key at Kent Bellows. Our enthusiastic mentors have exceptional professional backgrounds and love working with – and being inspired by! – their students.

Courses

High school students with a passion for creativity and the visual arts are welcome to apply to be a part of Kent Bellows! We offer a variety of exciting programs year-round to meet the interests and expertise of our students. Expect to spend at least four hours per week, spread over two days, developing your artwork.

Programs include:

Artist-in-Residence Program
Description: In our most advanced course, you work closely with other young artists and your mentor. You will have many hours of open studio time and will be encouraged to define your own projects. (Class size 2-3)

Studio Thesis Program
Description: In Studio Thesis, the focus is finding your own personal inspiration and strengthening artistic skills. You and other young artists will work with your mentor each day to build an individual style. (Class size 4-6)

Clay Arts Program
Description: The Clay Arts Program provides young artists with an inclusive approach to the ceramic arts and encourages
interdisciplinary exploration.There will be a great deal of discussion, preparation, and experimentation as well as opportunities for the Mentor to share his/her personal art-making habits, beliefs, style, etc. Students will learn professional studio practices and how to express meaningful ideas through objects. Their work will be exhibited in the end-of-semester show.
(Class size 4-6)

Gallery Internship Program
Through hands-on work with an experienced curator, students investigate local galleries while acquiring technical expertise. The culminating project gives students the opportunity to curate an end-of-semester art exhibition open to the public.

Arts Collective Program
Description: In this collaborative program, you will engage with other young artists to create a collective identity and produce
community based public and social artworks including installation. You will collectively produce a multimedia project and performance for the student exhibition. (Class size 4-6)

Urban Arts Program
In this unique program, students investigate urban art aesthetics and learn how to create art for public spaces. The program culminates with facilitation of a collaborative mural in a local, public location.

Art Survey Workshops
Description: In this dynamic program, you will survey multiple art disciplines across different locations including textiles, blacksmithing, sculpture, and printmaking. (Class size 3-4)

Pre-professional Program
Description: Our Pre-professional Programs are designed to provide the freedom and support that all artists and curators deserve as they gain the skills to be professionals in the arts community. Students will investigate other artists, experiment with various methods for achieving their goals, and work closely with professional mentors in a job shadow context. (Available to graduated students only)

We believe everyone deserves to be empowered by the arts: Tuition is paid on a self-selected sliding scale of $1 to $600, art supplies included.
